About Henrietta

My name is Henrietta Marcel, and I’m a Chemistry graduate with over five years of tutoring experience. I finished in the top three of my class at university, but my journey with chemistry didn’t start off as smooth as it sounds. Back in junior secondary school, I remember hearing so many stories about how scary and difficult chemistry was. Many of my classmates were anxious about it, and their fear made me curious. I decided to pay closer attention, and to my surprise, I discovered that chemistry wasn't as terrifying as it seemed. In fact, once I started linking what I was learning in class to things I could see and relate to around me, it all began to make sense. That changed everything. Chemistry became my favourite subject, and eventually, the course I chose to study at university. Today, I teach chemistry because I understand what it feels like to be confused or intimidated by it. I want to help students who are in that same place I once was, to show them that chemistry is not impossible. I’ve made it my goal to break down complex ideas and make them simple, relatable, and even enjoyable. I love seeing students gain confidence, ask better questions, and start to enjoy what they’re learning. Chemistry is a subject I’m extremely passionate about. I believe chemistry is all around us, and when students see that, it becomes less abstract and more exciting. My teaching style is built around that belief, and it’s been working for years. I’m here to make chemistry clear, simple, and accessible to anyone who’s ready to learn.

I take a simple, clear, and student-focused approach to teaching chemistry. My lessons are always tailored to suit the individual needs of each student, depending on their learning style, pace, and the topics they struggle with most. Whether it's breaking down concepts that may seem tricky in organic chemistry or helping with exam techniques for GCSEs and A-levels, I make sure students leave each session more confident than when they came in. I like to use real-life examples, everyday applications, and simple analogies to make chemistry less abstract and more relatable. I also believe in consistent practice, so I usually provide follow-up exercises, past paper questions, or short revision tips after every class to reinforce what we've covered. Lessons typically last about an hour, but I’m flexible depending on the student’s schedule and attention span. I’ve found that 60–90 minutes works best for most learners. I hold a BSc in Chemistry and have been tutoring for over five years. Alongside teaching, I’m also actively involved in academic research especially in environmental, organic, and analytical chemistry. I regularly assist with research writing and publications, which means I bring current, real-world knowledge into the lessons I teach. My lessons are ideal for secondary school students, especially those preparing for their GCSE or A-level chemistry exams. I have worked with students aged 13–18, and have helped them build strong foundations, boost their grades, and develop a genuine interest in the subject.
