About Percival

I am a private chemistry tutor based in Central London with a focus on exam preparation. Currently, I am studying MSci Chemistry at Imperial College London and have personally achieved A*A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A-Level and I want to help others do the same.

About the lesson

For the last 4 years, I have been helping GCSE and A-Level students who were previously looking at 6s and C grades achieve 9s and A*, allowing them to gain admission to their university of choice. Chemistry is a complicated and detail orientated subject that often leaves students feeling overwhelmed by the seemingly huge volume of content that they must memorise. My teaching approach centres on assisting the student build a more fundamental understanding of chemical concepts, giving them the ability to logically reason why specific mechanisms, reactions and observations occur from a tool kit of chemical first principles such as thermodynamics, kinetics and electronic structure/orbitals. This method of learning chemistry by deeply understanding the key patterns and how they relate to each other will greatly reduce the amount of raw memorisation required for what is already a challenging subject, with the ultimate goal of building a solid chemical intuition in preparation for the exams. Over the last few years of teaching, I have developed comprehensive sets of notes to accompany all the GCSE and A-Level chemistry topics that I offer to my tutees to assist with their revision. I usually teach remotely and at times to fit in with my tutees busy schedules as required.
