Tom is a respected tutor in our community. He is highly recommended for his commitment and the quality of his lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Tom
I teach students not simply what to think, but how to think. How to read properly, argue persuasively, communicate confidently, and engage critically with the world around them.
I know that every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to their individual strengths, weaknesses and goals. Whether a student needs to build confidence in essay writing, strengthen their analytical skills, master exam technique or simply develop a deeper enthusiasm for their subject, I adapt my teaching accordingly.
I teach closely to the relevant exam board, including AQA and Edexcel, ensuring that students understand exactly what their exams demand and how to maximise their marks. Lessons typically last one to two hours, depending on the student's needs and learning style.
My aim is not only to help students achieve the highest possible grades, but to give them the confidence, intellectual curiosity, discipline and communication skills to excel beyond the classroom. I particularly enjoy working with ambitious students who want to push themselves, think more deeply and gain the competitive edge needed to reach their full potential.

I structure every lesson around the individual student and their specific academic goals. Before beginning, I identify their current level, areas for improvement and preferred learning style, and use this to create a tailored programme of tuition. I also familiarise myself with their exam board and syllabus so that lessons remain closely aligned with what they will be assessed on.
Sessions combine clear explanation with active learning. Depending on the subject and topic, this might include discussion, close analysis of texts and sources, essay planning, timed exam questions, vocabulary work or focused exam-technique exercises. I encourage students to explain their thinking rather than simply memorise information, helping them develop the analytical and communication skills needed for the highest grades.
Progress is measured through regular feedback, targeted exercises and practice exam questions, allowing us to identify weaknesses and track improvement over time. I set achievable but stretching goals and revisit challenging areas until students are confident and secure.
Above all, I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I aim to create a supportive environment in which students are encouraged to think independently, take intellectual risks and develop confidence in their own abilities. My goal is to make each lesson purposeful, engaging and directly relevant to their ambitions.

Tom is the best tutor my son has ever had. He is incredibly enthusiastic and has a real talent for bringing History to life. Before working with Tom, my son found History boring and lacked confidence in the subject, but Tom completely changed that. He made the lessons engaging, enjoyable and accessible, and helped my son develop both his knowledge and confidence.
Tom genuinely went above and beyond and absolutely saved the day! He was incredibly well informed and very understanding. We couldn’t be happier with the progress and confidence he has helped our son achieve.
Thank you so much, Tom - we would recommend you 100%!Tom was the perfect tutor who was instrumental in taking my daughter from a grade 5 in her French mocks to a 9.
