About Mara
Hi! My name is Mara. I'm a summa cum laude graduate of Front Range Community College with an associate of arts in communication. Communication was a good major for me because I love learning about people. I look forward to getting to know each of the students I tutor.

I teach reading using the Barton system. According to the Barton website the Barton system is "a multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential program designed for intense intervention". I have gained experience teaching Barton through volunteer tutoring the past several months.
For best results, Barton recommends 2 hours of tutoring a week. I like to split this up into 4 half hour sessions a week.

Mara has a patient and gentle way when teaching with children. She connects and builds a relationship as she teaches which is the foundation of learning. Mara invests in learning best practices to teach reading to children using Orton Gillingham and meeting the child in their struggles and celebrating each level of learning along the way.
