I have worked with students with learning deficits, emotional disorders, executive functioning deficits and social skill deficits for nearly 25 years. I have taught them, listened to them, laughed and cried with them, learned with them, and from them.

My teaching approach is pretty simple. Kids need a champion. Children with learning deficits are too often faced with frustration and failure. I have found that if what they experience as difficult can be demystified for them, it makes learning ‘differently’ okay. (Even kind of cool, sometimes!) I like to tell the students I work with that the expression, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is backwards. They already have the “will" Every kid wants to do well if they can. What these kids don’t have, is the “way”. So we show them; through thinking strategies, coping strategies, mindfulness, a growth mindset and finally, success.
