About Vivian

My journey with Excel began during my undergraduate studies in Information Systems, where I realised the power of spreadsheets for organising, analysing, and presenting data. This led me to pursue further specialisation with an M.Sc in Data Analytics, exploring advanced data tools and automation techniques. Over the past 8 years, I have taught students across industries and academic levels, guiding them to achieve efficiency, accuracy, and confidence in Excel.

I prioritise a hands-on, applied teaching approach. Lessons combine structured explanations, real-world examples, and interactive exercises, helping students understand both technical functionality and practical application. I encourage experimentation, problem-solving, and independent exploration to deepen mastery.

Beyond teaching, I continually explore new Excel tools, functions, and automation techniques to keep lessons current and relevant. By connecting classroom exercises with real-life scenarios, students understand the broader utility of Excel. Watching learners progress from basic operations to advanced data analysis and workflow optimisation remains the most rewarding part of my teaching journey.

About the lesson

My Excel lessons focus on transforming students from casual users to confident, proficient spreadsheet managers. I cover essential topics including formulae, functions, data validation, pivot tables, charts, conditional formatting, macros, and automation. Lessons are structured with hands-on exercises, real-world data sets, and practical examples to ensure that students understand both the mechanics and the purpose of each tool. I emphasise creating efficient workflows and cultivating problem-solving skills while maintaining a supportive learning environment.

For beginners, I introduce the interface, basic formulae, data entry best practices, and simple charts to build familiarity and confidence. Intermediate learners explore advanced functions, nested formulae, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and visualisation techniques. Advanced learners focus on macros, VBA scripting, dashboard creation, and automated data analysis. Every lesson includes step-by-step guidance, practice exercises, and problem-solving strategies to reinforce learning and mastery.

Excel lessons are not just about learning software—they cultivate analytical thinking, attention to detail, and efficiency in data management. Students gain confidence in handling large datasets, performing calculations, generating insights, and presenting information clearly.
