About Marlise
I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Throughout highs school and university I have enjoyed helping my peers obtain a better understanding of the work and how to extend their skills.
Having studied both in South Africa and the US, I have learnt in different styles. I combine the strengths of each style such that the work is understandable and fun, giving students the best possible chance to succeed.

I am able to teach lessons in either English or Afrikaans.
Lessons are tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses. I aim to find and fill any missing link between current and previous content, as this enables the student to move forward and apply the knowledge much easier. My approach is for the student to understand why the content is important and how it applies to real life situations or where the skills can be used. When the why is understood, the how becomes easier.
My lessons are aimed at students who are willing to be challenged. High school students who want to reach that next level: be it a 30 to 40 or 70 to 80. There is always a way to improve for those who have the desire for a deeper understanding of the work.
My university-level lessons are aimed at students who are scraping through and looking for the edge to pass comfortably, especially for those subjects that hold you back (looking at you, Thermo and Dynamics!)
I can work with students with special needs, however this is not my area of expertise, and have little experience in this area.
