About Rebecca
I have been teaching for 43 years. I earned my BA in 1989, taught in public schools, then earned an MA in English in 2010. Along with picking up a certificate in Medieval Renaissance Studies, I earned another MS in Adult and Technical Education. For about ten years, during the summer, I have scored reading as well as written essays that are part of standardized tests.

My typical teaching method is to start with a mini-lecture, such as creating a three-point thesis. I explain what requirements are needed: for a thesis, it's the topic of the paper, plus three points that you'll cover in the paper. It's easier than you think, and I compare it to something you already know. Here is an example: a simple three-point thesis is "The colors of the American flag are red, white, and blue." The thesis of a paper is your blueprint - it tells the reader what the paper is about, and it also keeps you on track. What sets me apart as a tutor is I compare new ideas and explain them by comparing them to something you already know. Then I break the concept down into manageable parts, so you can master parts of the idea by putting it all together for it to make sense to you. My lessons are for middle school, high school, and adults of any age attending college.
