About Cynthia
I am a dedicated ESL tutor with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Language Studies and current master’s-level training in TESOL. My academic background, combined with hands-on experience tutoring students from upper elementary through college, allows me to provide structured, effective, and personalized instruction. My teaching approach is student-centered and evidence-based. Each lesson is thoughtfully planned with clear objectives, guided practice, and meaningful feedback. My approach as a tutor is student-centered, supportive, and personalized. I focus on meeting learners where they are and building skills step by step using clear explanations, modeling, guided practice, and positive reinforcement. I use evidence-based ESL strategies, visual supports, discussion, and real-life language tasks to help students understand and apply what they learn with confidence.
A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in and review of previous material, followed by a focused mini-lesson targeting one specific skill (such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, or writing). We then practice together through guided activities, and the lesson ends with independent practice and feedback so students leave knowing what they did well and what to work on next.
What sets me apart is my background in Applied Language Studies and TESOL, combined with hands-on experience supporting diverse learners, including ESL students, neurodiverse students, and those with IEPs or 504 plans. I prioritize patience, clarity, and confidence-building, creating a safe learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions.
