About Joseph
I have a B.A. (Literature and English) and M.A. (Development Studies) from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and an M.A. and Ph.D. (in African languages and Literature) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have taught Literature since 1976, first at the University of Dar es Salaam and then, up to now, at St. Olaf College in the USA.

I am an experienced teacher of African Literature, world literature, and folklore, and I am passionate about my work. My life dream, as I was growing up, was to be a teacher, and every day with students is the realization of the dream. My students know and appreciate this.
