About Mahathi

I have a Master's in Global Human Development from Georgetown University and a BA in Economics with an English minor from the University at Buffalo. I have more than five years of experience in helping students with English, Economics, and college applications. I've been through the application process myself as an international applicant — thrice — and have lived and worked across India, Ghana, the US, and Australia, so I understand the process from the outside looking in. I'm a supportive, encouraging, empathetic teacher who believes in every student's potential.

About the lesson

I teach by working directly with your own writing, error patterns, and the specific exam/application material you're facing — not generic drills. For essay writing and applications, I ask questions that surface your own material rather than handing you templates. For AP/IB exams, we focus on the reasoning and the writing that carries it, working under time pressure. I'd rather teach you to understand how to be a good writer than hand you a formula. Once you learn how to learn and think, you can accomplish anything.

My lessons are 1-2 hours per week, same times each week (my schedule is flexible and I will work with you to find time). We begin by setting goals and we track progress. My approach is completely tailored to your strengths and weaknesses.

I tutor students aged 18+ seeking help with SAT English (reading & writing); IB and AP English Language/Literature; IB and AP Economics; critical reading; text commentary; essay writing at any level. I offer guidance for US, UK, and Europe university applications (shortlisting personal statements and essays, references, evaluating which college to go to, thinking about majors and careers).
