About Brian
I am a university professor with a Ph.D. in English and literature from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA. I teach university writing, including individual tutoring, presently in Yola, with thirty years experience in the United States and Nigeria. I teach essay and research paper writing, in general topics and in literary topics.

Write, get feedback, and rewrite--that's how learning happens. The student begins by writing. Then I discuss the student's writing on an individual basis, guiding the student based on his or her own strengths and weaknesses. The student is free to ask questions and make comments. Then the student rewrites, based on our discussion.
My typical students are college undergraduate or postgraduate students who want to improve their writing skills. Students may have essays, senior research projects, dissertations, or even their own creative writing samples they want to perfect.
I often discuss professional models of essays with students to observe the writers' techniques and to apply them to the students' own essays. I work with various rhetorical modes, such as narration, description, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, classification and division, and argumentation. I discuss not only grammar and punctuation, but also essay form, including introduction, supporting paragraphs with details and examples, and conclusion.
