About Christina
My goal as a tutor is to help each student feel more confident about what they are learning and have fun at the same time. I have 9+ years of experience working with struggling readers, students who wish they could avoid writing, and students who feel intense anxiety about testing. My passion is giving them the tools to break through these barriers.
I have had the privilege of teaching academically and creatively gifted students, students with disabilities, and students in general education. All ability levels have different needs, and I am well-equipped to meet them. I have successfully grown all students in benchmark and standardized exams.
Most importantly, your student will feel comfortable, encouraged, and supported during their time with me. Building a positive relationship is key, as is giving them the ability to take what they learn in our tutoring sessions and apply it to future learning. I look forward to working with you!

I specialize in teaching students from 4th to 12th grade how to analyze complex passages, expand their vocabulary knowledge, and write with confidence. From non-fiction to literature, your students will learn to break apart and comprehend challenging texts. If your student seeks growth in standardized test scores, I have years of success increasing scores in all ability levels.
My approach is based on this: how students feel about their learning matters. If they are engaged, excited, and invested in the content, they are more likely to remember what they have learned. I use videos, research, and games to expand their background knowledge and grow their interests.
I aim to spark curiosity and build confidence while guiding them through challenging reading and writing assignments.
I have experience teaching lower and upper elementary, middle, and high school students. From phonics to literature, I can help students develop confidence and grow their test scores.
Below is a recent lesson plan I used with 7th- 9th-grade students.
The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe
Skills- Tone, Mood, and Vocabulary
Time: 1-3 days
Objectives
Students will:
*use context clues to interpret unfamiliar vocabulary.
* analyze the importance of point of view in a text.
*determine how an author uses imagery, figurative language, diction, and detail to create tone and mood.
*use figurative language and imagery in their writing to create tone and mood.
1. With teacher support, students will read The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. Using a graphic organizer, students will identify unfamiliar words and phrases and, using context clues, interpret their meanings. They will cite text evidence to support their inferences.
During the reading, students will discuss point of view and identify text evidence that establishes the passage's point of view.
After reading, students will write a summary of the passage and illustrate the most impactful scene, citing the text evidence that inspired the illustration and the feelings behind it.
2. Students will watch a short film of The Tell-Tale Heart and, using a graphic organizer, identify scenes that make the reader feel different emotions.
3. Students will return to the passage, highlighting imagery and figurative language examples. They will discuss how these examples make the reader feel and the mood they create.
Students will then use a different color to highlight examples of the author's attitude and how it is expressed through dialogue and figurative language.
4. Students will identify the overall tone and mood of the Tell-Tale Heart by choosing the most impactful lines and words from the passage. They will write a paragraph describing the tone and mood using this text evidence.
5. The students will brainstorm with the teacher and think of other words that create a similar mood. Using these words,
Students will write about a time in their own life when they felt emotions similar to those of the characters in the Tell-Tale Heart.
