About Kerry
Hi, I'm Kerry!
I have been teaching in Elementary and K-8 schools in Australia for the past ten years and have been teaching back in the US for a year. I have a BFA in Graphic Design but soon found my true calling was education, leading me to attain a Masters Degree in Teaching from the University of Melbourne in Australia.
I have taught full time since 2011 and have thrived on the mental challenge of figuring out how to help students develop their learning- how to challenge misconceptions and provide correction in ways that the student can understand.

I have 12 years of experience teaching English and Mathematics in K-8 (5 year olds to 13 year olds) schools and love helping children to achieve their potential. My lessons can be tailored to any area of K-8 education- English, Mathematics, History and Geography.
I am also able to teach adults English as a Second Language.
With children and adults, the focus is on engagement and planning lessons at the right level of challenge.
Typically, my lessons follow this format:
- assessing prior knowledge (what does the student know and what do they need to learn next)
- modelling and explicit teaching
- allowing the student a chance to complete tasks with me
- giving the student time to complete questions independently and assess their skills while they do so, looking for any misconceptions that need to be corrected
- reflection, helping the student to reflect on their performance and the content
