About Jonathan
I have been teaching English in top-tier high schools since 1998. In that time, I have mentored students at the highest level - I have helped students gain admission to the very best universities in the world, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale .. .the list is very long! Several of these success stories were students with learning differences, or students who thought they didn't know how to analyze literature very well. The same can be said for my student writers: I have proven many times that anyone can learn to write with confidence and pleasure once they know the proper approach. It's really true! More than anything, I'm adept at sharing my love for both reading and writing, and I believe I can help anyone find a way to become lifelong readers and writers, just like me.

First and foremost, I have a deep love for literature and writing, and I am good at inspiring the same in my students! Literature lessons typically begin with my explanations of literary elements relevant to the text we're studying and our consideration of examples of these elements within the text. We move on to discussion of themes and topics that come up in a week's reading: what interests the students, what interests me, how we respond to what we've read. Writing classes emphasize good process: we work together through planning, drafting and revising to produce a polished final product. Students will learn through these lessons how to self-direct future projects, thus becoming confident, independent writers.
