About Paul
Hi there! My name is Paul, and I am an experienced English educator, writer, and curriculum specialist with over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I’ve taught English Language Arts and Professional Writing at both the high school and university levels, helping students become more confident and effective communicators. I hold a Master’s degree from the University of Oregon and have served as both a classroom teacher and curriculum leader, designing engaging lessons that build literacy, critical thinking, and academic writing skills. I also worked as an Education Specialist for the US Peace Corps in Mongolia, training teachers and preparing students for international exams such as TOEFL and IELTS. I believe learning works best when it’s personalized, encouraging, and practical. My goal is to meet each student where they are, whether they’re polishing essays, improving reading comprehension, or preparing for college or career success, and help them reach the next level with confidence. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy studying languages, reading world literature, and exploring how stories connect people across cultures.

My lessons focus on building strong reading, writing, and communication skills through a balance of structure and creativity. I use a student-centered approach that blends direct instruction with discussion, modeling, and guided practice. Every session is tailored to each student’s goals, interests, and skill level.
A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up or skill review, followed by focused instruction on a specific topic (e.g. essay organization, grammar in context, or reading strategies). We then apply the skill through writing or analysis exercises, and finish with clear feedback and next steps for independent practice.
I specialize in academic writing, essay development, reading comprehension, and test preparation (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS). My students range from high school learners seeking stronger literacy skills to college and adult students refining their writing for academic or professional goals.
What sets me apart is my background as both a curriculum developer and classroom teacher. I understand how to design lessons that are engaging, standards-aligned, and personalized.
