About Alexa
Hi, I'm Alexa, and I'm currently studying English Literature and Creative Writing at university. My long-term goal is to become both a published author and a secondary school English teacher, combining my love of literature with my passion for helping others develop their confidence and skills.
My interest in English began when I was a child. I spent countless hours in the library reading novels and discovering new authors, and from an early age I knew I wanted to write stories of my own. That love of reading gradually developed into a fascination with how writers use language to create meaning.
For two years during secondary school, I served as a Senior English Literature Captain, where I tutored students studying GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language. Through this experience, I discovered how rewarding it is to help students overcome challenges and gain confidence in their abilities. I offer flexible online lessons and bring enthusiasm, patience, and genuine passion to every session.
One of my favourite aspects of English is literary analysis. I love exploring what writers might be suggesting beneath the surface of a text, how historical context and zeitgeist influence literature, and how students can develop sophisticated and supported interpretations. I'm also passionate about creative writing and helping students find their own voice as writers. While I appreciate a wide range of critical perspectives, I tend to focus most on textual analysis and authorial choices rather than heavily psychoanalytic approaches.
A teacher who had a profound influence on me was my secondary school English Literature teacher. They helped bring me out of my shell and encouraged me to see myself as a capable and creative writer. Their support showed me the difference a dedicated teacher can make, and it continues to inspire my own approach to teaching today.
I believe that great tutoring is never one-size-fits-all. Every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand each individual's strength and goals. Rather than teaching the same lesson in the same way to everyone, I adapt my approach to suit the student and help them develop confidence as well as academic success.
One experience that reinforced this belief was working with a student who was convinced they "just weren't good at English." After several weeks of breaking down texts together and practising analytical writing step by step, they began contributing confidently in lessons and produced some of their strongest work. Seeing that transformation reminded me that confidence can often be just as important as ability.
Like many students, I have also faced challenges myself. One of the biggest has been developing confidence in my own ideas and interpretations. Studying English taught me that analysis is not about finding a single "correct" answer, but about constructing thoughtful and well-supported arguments. This understanding has helped me grow as both a student and a tutor.
What makes me a Superprof? Simply put, I genuinely care about English. I am passionate about analysing texts, exploring why writers choose particular words and techniques, and helping students discover that English is far more than memorising quotations or passing exams. My goal is to help students become more confident readers, writers, and thinkers while achieving the results they are aiming for.
