About Freyja
Hello, I'm Freyja! I have an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction) and a First Class degree in English Literature.
What I love about the study of language and literature is the sheer amount of possibilities and interpretations there are to any given text. A lot of what makes a successful English student comes down to: understanding the text, understanding how to approach exam questions and structure essays, and confidence in your own interpretations of the text. It's also really important to know the basics of language — things like word types, sentence structure, and punctuation and spelling. I can help you build the skills you need to be successful, at the same time increasing your confidence in your own abilities, in a friendly and patient manner.
In my spare time I enjoy writing, playing guitar, and analogue photography.

I always begin my sessions assessing a student's strengths and areas for improvement, and finding out what they want to get out of the sessions. From there, I make a plan with the student but remain flexible should their needs change. It's really important the student is involved in the process as it's about them feeling more confident and getting the grade they want. I always ensure my students feel well supported.
Lessons are broken up into chunks. Usually with a starter activity (e.g. a quiz or recap), followed by an introduction to the main topic with a discussion, and exercises. For GCSE and A Level students, I think it's really important to be aware of the mark scheme and assessment objectives, so I always make sure these are embedded in the lessons. Sometimes students just want to run through exam questions or want to learn more content e.g. for Poetry or Shakespeare or how to write a descriptive piece. It all depends on what the student would find most helpful.
In our first session we'll plan ahead so all the content and delivery is tailored to your needs. I welcome queries from KS3, GCSE, and A Level students. I also have experience with students with SEN — please drop me a message if you’d like to chat.
