About Umar
I am a self-taught artist and natural historian based in Northern Nigeria. My work spans illustration, design, traditional basketry, botanical cultivation, and arachnology — the study of spiders — which I have researched independently for several years. Alongside my art practice, I run a natural fiber startup, which has deepened my understanding of materials, craft traditions, and process-driven thinking. I am entirely self-directed, which means I know firsthand what it takes to build genuine knowledge outside conventional institutions. I bring that same rigor, curiosity, and patience into every teaching relationship. I take learning seriously — and I take my students seriously.

My English lessons are tailored to how each student naturally communicates, not forced into a rigid template. I focus on reading comprehension, written expression, and spoken confidence depending on what the student needs most. I am a self-taught writer and communicator with years of experience navigating complex ideas through language, and I have taught English informally across different age groups. Sessions typically run 60 minutes but I remain flexible based on the student's pace and goals. I welcome learners of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to those refining advanced skills.
