About Poppy
I am an outgoing, committed second-year medical student and IB English Language & Literature HL graduate who achieved a high 6. I genuinely enjoyed learning in the IB, and am passionate about helping other students achieve similar success.
I take a highly individualized approach to tutoring, focusing on understanding how each student learns best. I am motivated by seeing students improve, and I am committed to going above and beyond to find methods, explanations, and strategies that work for them. I strongly believe that every student is capable of achieving more than they initially think, and I aim to support and motivate them to reach that potential.
I have experience tutoring a wide range of students, from primary level through to senior secondary, as well as supporting high-performing students preparing for medical school interviews. This has strengthened my ability to develop clear communication, structured thinking, and strong analytical skills. I also have strong oral expression skills, which are particularly valuable for supporting students with the IB Individual Oral (IO), including structuring responses, refining delivery, and building confidence.
I aim to create a supportive, structured environment where students feel confident, challenged, and equipped to express their ideas clearly and perform at their best.

My lessons focus on both developing strong analytical skills and refining exam technique, so you can consistently express ideas as well-structured, top-scoring responses.
In lessons, we typically cover:
- Building strong essay-writing skills, including clear thesis development and structured arguments
- Developing text commentary skills for unseen analysis (Paper 1)
- Strengthening comparative essay techniques and analysing texts (Paper 2)
- Preparing for the Individual Oral (IO), including chosen text analysis, argument development, draft feedback and editing, and delivery
- Improving clarity, expression, and use of evidence
- Practising with IB-style and past paper questions
- Ongoing feedback to refine writing and track improvement
How I teach
I take a highly individualised approach, adapting each lesson to how you learn best. I use a combination of guided practice, model responses, targeted feedback, and discussion-based learning to help you develop both confidence and independence.
My focus is not just on improving individual essays, but on helping you build a clear, repeatable approach to analysis and writing that you can apply in any exam situation.
My experience
I achieved a high 6 in IB English Language & Literature HL and understand both the analytical demands of the subject and the importance of structured, precise writing. Having completed the IB recently, I can provide up-to-date insight into expectations for Paper 1, Paper 2, and internal assessments.
Alongside this, I have experience working with students across a range of levels, including tutoring primary and secondary students in maths and science, and supporting senior students preparing for high-pressure assessments such as medical school interviews. This has strengthened my ability to teach clear communication, structured thinking, and exam confidence.
Who I teach
- IB English Language & Literature HL and SL students (primarily Years 11–12)
- Students aiming to improve essay writing, analysis, and exam performance
- Secondary students (Years 7–10) seeking support in English
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, with longer sessions available if needed (e.g. exam preparation or IA support).
