About Aaliyah
Language has always been at the core of my academic journey. From school through to my undergraduate degree in English (2:1), I have studied English, French, and Spanish at A-level, where I became adept and discovered the structure of how languages are built through grammar and tone. This deepened an understanding of my mother tongue, English, which became the foundation of my degree. During my undergraduate studies in English at the University of Southampton, I was able to deepen my interest in these skills further, particularly through modules including critical theory and the worlding of English literature. These skills improved my analytical skills as well as my communication skills, and more precisely, my desire to apply this to practical academic life. Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language is one of the most rewarding paths to take from an English degree. Teaching and learning English are built around confidence through connections and opportunities. My academic background, including application of critical theory, enthusiasm and knowledge of other languages, puts me in a meaningful position to contribute to a Master’s degree in TESOL.
