About Kathir
Hi! My name is Kathir Hector, and I’m a Canadian university student studying International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa.
I tutor English, essay writing, academic writing, reading comprehension, social studies, history, politics, international relations, and public speaking. My goal is to make writing feel less stressful and more manageable. I can help you understand your assignment, organize your ideas, build strong arguments, improve your grammar and clarity, and feel more confident in your writing.
I have a strong writing background, both academically and professionally. I received a 5 on the AP English Literature and Composition exam, and I have written research papers, long academic reports on international relations, speeches and briefings delivered at the United Nations, and written materials for different international organizations. Because of this, I can help students not only enhance their writing, but also understand how to make their ideas stronger and more persuasive in different contexts.
I also have experience teaching youth, adults, and children with autism through my work as a swim instructor. I am comfortable with the different learning needs and teaching styles that will help you succeed. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, so they can focus on developing the long-term skills that you'll need to succeed.
Since my background focuses on the social sciences, I can also provide specialized support on those topics. Whether you need help starting an essay, improving a draft, preparing for a presentation, understanding readings, or becoming a stronger writer, I’d be happy to help!

My lessons are designed to be practical, and personalized to each student’s needs. I believe in an approach that can build my students' skills for the long term, so they can be better writers and thinkers. I try to help students understand why something works, how to improve it, and how to apply those skills on their own in the future.
For writing and essay support, I begin by helping students understand the assignment, break down the required tasks, and organize their ideas. From there, we can work on thesis statements, essay structure, paragraph development, grammar, clarity, flow, citations, and stronger arguments. If a student already has a draft, I can help them revise it while explaining the reasoning behind each change, so they become a better writer over time.
For social studies, history, politics, and international relations, I focus on helping students understand complex ideas in a simple and approachable way. I can help with readings, class concepts, essay planning, research papers, presentations, and connecting course material to real-world examples.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of academic writing, professional writing, and teaching experience. I have written research papers, long reports, speeches, briefings, and materials for international organizations, including work connected to high-level international settings such as the United Nations. I also have experience teaching youth, adults, and children with autism through my work as a swim instructor, which taught me how to be patient, flexible, and supportive of different learning styles.
My lessons are best suited for high school students, first-year university students, and anyone who wants to become a stronger writer, improve their confidence, or better understand humanities and social science subjects. Whether you need help starting an assignment, improving a draft, preparing for a presentation, or building long-term academic skills, I will meet you where you are and help you move forward step by step.
