About Ashley
Hi, I'm Ashley!
I'm currently in my second year of Grad school at UNB as a master's student in English, specializing in creative writing. I'm extremely proud of the 4.0 GPA I've held for my entire university career, especially since I've worked very hard to get it! I also know what it's like to struggle in school and fall behind, and the shame that is often attached to that. It is my opinion that everyone is smart in their own way. People are almost always capable of more than they perceive. The English subject doesn't come easily to everyone, and that's okay. In the end, it's about finding ways to grapple with the English language and its materials and develop good communication skills.
You are capable of developing the basic tools used in the English language, and in doing so, you will most likely find ways of enjoying it and coming away from it with integral skills that will make it possible to both survive and thrive in this world.

No matter the background or skill level, I believe that anyone is capable of learning to read, write, critically analyze text, and develop good communication skills in the English language if only given the right tools and support.
Not everyone learns the same way or is interested in the same things, and so, my approach to teaching is to learn about my students, and what works for them. I aim to develop unique, engaging, and specialized lesson plans for my students. Utilizing multiple ways of learning (visual, auditory, reading and writing, and kinesthetic learning), I'll create lessons that are accessible, exciting, and stimulating, all while providing a safe space for the development and success of my students. I tutor grades 6-12, and up to third-year University students.
Do you need help with overall literacy, or reading and analyzing texts? How about essay writing; organization, nuance, research, citations, grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, or critical thinking? Are you uncomfortable reading, writing about, or discussing classic and modern literature, poetry, history, theory, and/or creative writing (fiction/non-fiction)? If so, I'm here to help!
