About Cathy
About Me
Hi! I’m a college and medical school admissions advisor who genuinely loves helping students figure out how to tell their story and stand out. I’ve worked with students through every step of the process, from essays to interviews, and I know how overwhelming it can feel. My job is to make it clear, manageable, and even a little enjoyable.
I bring a mix of real-world experience and a strong understanding of what admissions teams are actually looking for. I don’t just edit essays, I help you find your voice, shape your message, and present yourself in a way that feels authentic and confident.
I also teach English to adult learners, focusing on conversation and real-life communication. My sessions are relaxed, supportive, and interactive. We talk, practice, and build confidence naturally, not in a stiff or textbook way.
Students often tell me I’m easy to talk to, honest, and very hands-on. I’ll guide you step by step, but I’ll also push you when needed so you can improve quickly. Think of me as your coach, editor, and biggest supporter all in one.
Whether you’re applying to college or medical school, preparing for interviews, or just want to speak more confidently, I’ll help you get there with a clear plan and a lot less stress.
If you want, I can make it a little more “high-end” for your website or shorter for Wyzant
No college apps is only part of the story. IT needs to cover public speaking, essay writing, marketing
Got it—that’s a much bigger, more dynamic picture of what you do. Here’s a fun, well-rounded version that captures all of it:
About Me
Hi! I’m someone who loves helping people find their voice and use it with confidence, whether that’s in writing, speaking, or presenting themselves professionally.
While I do work with college and medical school applicants, that’s only part of what I do. My background also includes marketing, communication, and leadership, so I help students and professionals develop real-world skills that go far beyond applications.
I work on everything from essay writing and personal statements to public speaking, interview skills, and how to communicate clearly and confidently in any setting. If you’ve ever struggled with “what do I say?” or “how do I say it better?”—that’s where I come in.
My sessions are very interactive and practical. We don’t just talk about ideas, we practice them. That might mean editing an essay together, running mock interviews, improving presentation skills, or learning how to speak naturally and confidently without overthinking every word.
What makes me different is that I combine strategy with a very personal approach. I’ll help you shape your message, but I’ll also make sure it still sounds like you. I’m supportive, honest, and not afraid to push you a little so you can improve quickly.
Students and clients often say they leave sessions feeling more confident, more clear, and much more prepared—not just for one goal, but for whatever comes next.
Whether you’re working on writing, public speaking, interviews, or professional communication, I’ll help you build skills that last well beyond any single application or assignment.

My Teaching Method and Techniques
My approach is highly personalized and student-centered. I focus on building confidence first, then refining skills. I break complex concepts into simple, manageable steps and use real examples so students truly understand, not just memorize. I emphasize conversation, critical thinking, and practical application, especially for interviews, essays, and real-world communication. I also adapt quickly based on each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session is structured but flexible. We usually begin with a quick review of previous work, followed by focused skill-building such as essay editing, mock interviews, or speaking practice. I incorporate targeted feedback in real time so students can improve immediately. We end with clear next steps or assignments, so progress continues between sessions.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I bring both academic and real-world experience. I have worked directly in admissions and understand what decision-makers are truly looking for. My students benefit from insider perspective, honest feedback, and strategic guidance. I am also very hands-on and accessible, and I take a genuine interest in each student’s success. My approach is supportive but direct, which helps students grow quickly and effectively.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for high school students, college students, and applicants preparing for competitive programs, including medical school and graduate school. I work especially well with students who want help with personal statements, application strategy, and interview preparation. I also support ESL learners at intermediate to advanced levels who want to improve conversation skills, fluency, and confidence in academic or professional settings.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Cathy was a lifesaver in me getting into medical school. She worked with me to find the schools that matched my scores and GPA. Helped me put together my personal statement and supplementals. Most of all she coched me on my interviews. I am starting medical school in June and could not have done it without her.
Cathy went above and beyond as my English teacher - I can't recommend her enough! She is patient, diligent, organized, and kind. English is a complex language, but Cathy makes it extra simple by using tailored lessons to what I am passionate about :)
I was applying to medical schools. As Cathy had expertise in medical school acceptances, I worked with her. From taking the MCAT to picking schools, putting together the applications, and the interview, she gave me the knowledge and confidence to be entering my first choice in a month.
As a CEO looking to sharpen my Spanish, I was referred to Cathy through trusted academic and alumni contacts at the Villanova University School of Business, and she exceeded expectations. She combines insight, clarity, and a results-driven approach with a style that makes every session engaging and productive. I highly recommend Cathy—work with her and you’ll quickly see the impact.
