About Rachel

I have just finished my second year studying English Literature and History at the University of Warwick, and while I maintain a strong passion for the humanities, it wasn't always the case! I understand the frustration that students may feel especially towards GCSE English, and it was only due to my fantastic teachers of when I was doing my GCSEs that I fell in love with the subject, after finding it rather dull for many years! I would love to help other students to foster that same passion and build their confidence to go and win those grades that we all know they can achieve!
I am an experienced tutor in teaching beginner skills, being a qualified tennis coach and experienced piano teacher, so am able to explain difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand and engaging format, but I am also able to teach more advanced students, having achieved both grade 9s in English Literature and Language myself, so I know all of the study techniques and hacks that can make the student's life easier! I am currently achieving first-class results in my Literature studies at University and would like to show students that they can aim to do the same!

About the lesson

My lessons will allow students to retain content that they will have learnt throughout the academic year, and will prepare them to continue building their knowledge for when they start school again in September. Before teaching begins, I would need an overview of what they have already covered in their term-time lessons.
Lessons will be an hour long, and will maintain a focus on both Literature and Language. I will begin lessons with short reading comprehension activities or quizzes to maintain retention, before spending the first half of the lesson on either Literature or Language, and then swapping to the other for the second half to keep the student engaged!
I will work primarily on the student understanding WHY they are learning what they are learning, and how each piece of content can help them pass the exams and achieve a high grade. These lessons can be tailored to those who simply need to pass, or those who are wishing to meet those top grades.
