About Imani
Hi there! My name's Imani. I'm from Toronto and I'm currently an engineering student at Cornell University. I love helping students bridge the gap between "I don't get this" and "Oh, I understand this concept now!"
As a division I NCAA athlete on Cornell's track team and having navigated rigorous academic and high-performance athletic environments, I understand firsthand the importance of building confidence and the importance of truly understanding the things we learn. This confidence is rooted in staying organized, and developing a growth mindset. As an experienced varsity team captain and mentor, I strive to provide a patient, structured, and encouraging space where students feel empowered to tackle tough concepts. Let’s work together to better understanding of core subjects and build academic habits that last a lifetime!

As a tutor I would ask students to explain what it is they are struggling with. I would then formulate a plan focused on breaking down the subject matter into a way that is more understandable. I believe in working through strong examples with students to reinforce understanding. What sets me apart from other tutors is that I take the time to ensure student understanding instead of trying to simply recite a lesson. My math lessons focus on primary math foundations, bridge to algebra and high school math prep. My English lessons focus on early reading and creative literacy, critical reading and essay essentials and Academic English and Literacy Analysis.
