About Oscar
Hi! My name is Oscar. I'm 24, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering, and I have traveled across Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia. I'm fluent in both English and Mandarin as I grew up in Taiwan prior to moving to New Zealand. I love to cook for my family, read a book on a rainy day, do street photography, and learn about design.

I started tutoring when I was in High School and continued through my University studies. This year marks my 8th year as a tutor. In all my lessons, I'd start with a conversation to build trust with my students. The first lesson is for my students to learn about my background, and for me to understand their current situation as well as their preferred learning methodology. I believe in focused intervals. Thus, my lessons typically last 1 hour and are structured as 25 mins on, 5 mins off, 30 mins on. When I teach, I like to converse with the student and engage their thinking. Rather than telling them to answer questions repetitively, I would ask the student open-ended questions that test their understanding of the subject at a fundamental level. Doing so helps my students gain clarity in their thinking, sharpen critical analysis skills, and grow their confidence in facing difficult problems. My lessons are for High School students in their penultimate year, or younger.
