About Emily
I have had extensive peer editing experience and have a strong background in analytical writing. I am well-equipped to help students with essay success at all steps of the writing process from initial brainstorming to structuring evidence and analysis to the final touches! I also work as a college essay reviewer for T20 schools in the US. As for standardized testing, I scored a 1570 on the SAT and was a National Merit Scholar in high school. My SAT reading skills are especially strong and I am well-equipped to share my proven success by helping students strategize and practice their standardized test prep.

Having gone through the process to receive an IB Diploma and challenge myself with AP and IB coursework all while preparing for standardized testing, I understand the stressful balancing act that high school can be, and about the importance of focus and time management to make schoolwork a fulfilling process. Throughout high school I found after-school tutorials, where I could ask teachers more in-depth questions about course content, to be immensely valuable for succeeding in each class. I found that I tended to enjoy a class more if the professor was mindful of different learning styles and kept the class environment engaging. Office hours, the college equivalent of after-school tutorials, also proved to be an amazing help for succeeding in rigorous courses at Dartmouth. The teaching assistants and professors for the classes I enjoyed most were patient, engaged in our learning, and were great at giving suggestions for how to make the most of what we learned in office hours when studying on our own.
I strive to bring this energy into my tutoring, building on my experience as a volunteer tutor at my local library and as a private tutor for test prep and homework help. Working with my students to devise more efficient, personalized learning strategies is very important to me, as is creating a comfortable and focused learning environment.
