As a veteran teacher of 18 years, I have seen many shifts in education. Right now with the science of reading philosophy, more emphasis is being placed on phonics and phonemic awareness which I have always known to be important. These building blocks are key in laying the foundation for reading. Programs like UFLI phonics and Heggerty phonemic awareness are amazing tools to help lay this foundation. I have seen struggling students thrive when participating in these programs and utilizing these strategies!
