About Erin
I graduated from Eastern Illinois University and was hired as a pre k teacher where I spent the first 6 years of my teaching career. I have since moved to first grade-this is where all the magic happens! In first grade, students learn to read, write, add, subtract, tell time, identify and count money, measure, make graphs, do science experiments and they have to learn to be apart of a group and cooperate with others. They are only 5-7, with emotions bigger than they are—this is a room of absolute chaos from the outside, but inside the storm, my students are learning one on one or in small groups, playing games and having fun. For most lessons, I teach the core idea/concept and then I break it down into smaller chunks that I reteach so it is a little easier for each group/student to understand.
I am also a mother of 4 beautiful children who all have very different learning styles. I believe I become a different type of teacher after having my children. I look at my students so much differently because I can imagine them as my child, not just a student.

My favorite part of teaching is figuring out how a student learns best and then creating lessons and activities to support their needs in ways that are engaging for that person! I try to incorporate movement with learning for all ages because our brains remember more when we are moving while doing. We all spend too much time sitting and watching instead of doing. Let me help your student start doing more!
