About Selina

My teaching methodology integrates traditional methods with graphic organizers, checklists, and strategies like RACE and Say, Mean, Matter to foster student understanding and independent thinking. Each lesson begins with a clear objective and an activation of prior knowledge, using real-world examples to engage students. During direct instruction, I utilize graphic organizers to visually structure information and bar modeling to simplify abstract concepts. I also implement strategies like RACE (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) to help students provide evidence-based responses and Say, Mean, Matter to guide them in interpreting and explaining texts. In guided practice, I offer scaffolding through checklists and feedback, coaching students to build confidence and independence. Independent practice allows students to apply learned strategies, with monitoring and intervention as necessary. The lesson concludes with a review, emphasizing research, evidence, and elaboration, while offering positive reinforcement to instill confidence. Formative assessments help guide future lessons and support ongoing student development.
