About Huma
Hi, I’m Huma! I’m a PhD researcher in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury, where I work on solar energy research. I’m originally from Pakistan and now live in Christchurch.
Teaching has always been a big part of my life. In Pakistan, I taught Physics at both secondary school and university level, and I now help university engineering students in their labs and tutorials here in New Zealand. What I enjoy most is the moment when something that seemed confusing suddenly makes sense to a student. I know how important it is to have someone patient who explains things clearly and doesn’t make you feel rushed.
I’ve studied and worked in two countries and with students from many different backgrounds, so I understand that everyone learns differently. I speak English, Urdu and Punjabi, so I can teach in whichever of these languages you’re most comfortable with.
My goal is simple, to help you feel confident, enjoy the subject and get the results you’re working towards.

My lessons are relaxed, friendly and focused on real understanding, not just memorizing formulas. At the start, I take time to find out where you are, what you find difficult and what your goals are, whether that’s passing NCEA, improving your grades or getting through a university course.
I explain each topic step by step, using simple language and everyday examples, then we practice together with questions and past exam papers. I encourage you to ask questions at any time, because there are no silly questions in my lessons. I also give tips on exam technique and how to show your working clearly.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, and I can teach in person in Christchurch or online.
I’m in the final year of my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury, and I have a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Physics. I taught Physics at a secondary school for a year and now work as a Teaching Assistant for university engineering students.
My lessons are for high school students (NCEA Levels 1–3 and Cambridge) and first- or second-year university students in Physics, Math and basic electrical engineering.

Online lessons and lessons at a local library are the same price. I can also come to your home within 5 km of Ilam:

If you live further away, we can have lessons online instead.
