About Jessica
As an educator, I have spent 20 years teaching reading to elementary age students. I always focus on my relationships with students first, because I have learned that students (just like adults) take feedback, advice, instruction and correction more readily if it comes from a person with whom they have a relationship. Some of my accomplishments include being awarded as Teacher of the Year for my district, providing training for teachers within the district and across Mississippi, providing lessons and training for teachers in struggling schools, and leading other educators to move towards excellence in teaching.

I teach English Language Arts lessons based on structured literacy and the science of reading. My lessons begin with a warm-up/review of previously taught skills then move into instruction on the focus skill. When a new skill is taught, it is first modeled, then guided practice is completed, after that students practice independently and receive feedback on their work. Depending on the difficulty of skill, this process may take anywhere from one session to five sessions. As a tutor, I assess students' background knowledge in order to determine skill deficits. This helps sessions to be more efficient and focused. My lessons focus on students in kindergarten through sixth grade who struggle with reading, fluency, vocabulary and/or comprehension.
