As a tutor I have always made my lesson plans fun and hands on. I typically work with children ages 4-10. I would typically start off with a quick lesson on what we learned last time, i then would explain what we will be doing this session and get started on it, during my tutoring sessions I always like to play a game half way through to break it up, and then finish the session with work.
