About Alisha

I am a certified educator with a Master’s in Educational Leadership and over five years of experience teaching and supporting students across elementary and middle school settings. My background includes classroom teaching, instructional coaching, and data-driven intervention work, with a strong focus on reading, writing, math, and special education supports. I have worked extensively with diverse learners, including students with IEPs, English language learners, and students who need targeted academic intervention or enrichment. My instruction is grounded in research-based practices and aligned with state standards, ensuring that students are not only supported but also held to high expectations for growth and achievement.

My teaching approach is structured, intentional, and responsive to each learner’s needs. I use explicit instruction, modeling, guided practice, and gradual release to build both skill mastery and confidence. Lessons are designed around clear learning goals, with frequent checks for understanding so that instruction can be adjusted in real time. I also prioritize creating a safe and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing independence. Every session is purposeful, with progress monitored closely to ensure steady academic growth.

Students who work with me receive individualized support tailored to their current level and learning style. I specialize in identifying skill gaps quickly and providing targeted instruction to close them efficiently. Whether a student is struggling with foundational skills or working to exceed grade-level expectations, I adapt my instruction to meet them where they are and move them forward. I also emphasize organization, study skills, and learning strategies that help students succeed beyond tutoring sessions. My goal is not only to improve academic performance, but also to help students build lasting confidence in their abilities.

Teaching Method and Techniques
My teaching approach is structured, data-informed, and highly student-centered. I prioritize understanding how each learner processes information and then tailor instruction using scaffolding, explicit modeling, and guided practice. I frequently use formative assessment to adjust instruction in real time, ensuring that learning gaps are addressed immediately rather than after the fact. Instruction is broken into clear, manageable steps with frequent checks for understanding and feedback loops. I also integrate visual supports, real-world connections, and metacognitive strategies so students understand not just the “what,” but the “why” behind their learning. For students with additional needs, I incorporate accommodations and differentiation strategies aligned to their learning profile.

A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session begins with a brief diagnostic check or warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge and identify immediate needs. I then introduce the learning target in student-friendly language and model the skill or concept explicitly, often using think-aloud strategies. The lesson moves into guided practice where I work alongside the student, gradually releasing responsibility as confidence builds. Independent practice follows, with targeted feedback provided throughout to reinforce accuracy and deepen understanding. I end each session with a short reflection or exit check to measure mastery and inform the next lesson. Progress is tracked over time so instruction remains intentional and goal-driven.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What distinguishes my tutoring is my ability to combine instructional expertise with real-world classroom leadership experience and deep knowledge of learning supports. I am trained in evidence-based instructional practices, data analysis, and intervention design, which allows me to quickly diagnose learning needs and respond effectively. I specialize in breaking down complex skills into accessible steps while maintaining high expectations for student achievement. My background in ESE and coaching also allows me to support students who need additional structure, organization, or accommodations. I focus not just on improving grades, but on building long-term confidence, independence, and academic skills that transfer across settings. My instruction is intentional, adaptive, and grounded in measurable growth.

Who the Lessons Are For
These lessons are designed for elementary and middle school students, particularly those in grades 2 through 8 who need support in reading, writing, or math. I also work well with students who receive ESE services, are struggling with foundational skills, or need enrichment beyond grade-level expectations. My instruction is appropriate for general education learners, students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum support needs, and students who benefit from structured, explicit teaching. I can also support early high school learners in foundational literacy and math remediation. Lessons are individualized based on diagnostic data, current performance level, and specific learning goals to ensure meaningful progress for each student.
