About Jessica

I have been giving lessons part time since 2016. I am TEFL qualified. I have mostly helped children between the ages of 6-10.
One of my students has dyslexia and ADHD so I had to keep lesson plans interesting and fun but appropriate and effective. I worked with her for a whole year and she improved so much. She was more confident when writing and reading. She also had less reversals when she writing.

I am also volunteering at a program called Shine Literacy, teaching children English as an additional language and many of those students have no understanding of English when they start the program. Shine Literacy’s programs helps to transform the prospects of some of South Africa’s most vulnerable children by breaking the destructive cycle of poor literacy, low educational attainment, wasted potential and poverty. We provide structured English literacy support to children, providing storybooks.

Like every other great teacher I am very patient and I will always go out of my way to make sure my students reach their full potential.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are very student-centered. While teachers are still an authority figure in a student-centered teaching model, teachers and students play an equally active role in the learning process.
I believe that my primary role is to coach and facilitate student’s learning and overall comprehension of material, and to measure the student’s learning through both formal and informal forms of assessment. In the student-centered lesson, teaching and assessment are connected because student learning is continuously measured during teacher instruction. I make sure that I know what my student’s needs are so I can help them in that way. I alternate my lesson plans according to the student (not everyone learns the same) this way they get the most out of the lesson. I make sure that students can relate to the lesson, because if you can relate the chances of remembering what I taught the student is much greater. I can also be strict when I need to be, there is a time for everything.

An additional fee will be charged for traveling based on the amount (km) I have to travel. A cancellation fee of 50% of the original lesson will be charged if you do not notify me within 6 hours of the lesson.
