About Max
Hi!
I'm Max. I'm 22 years old and recently graduated from Edinburgh University with a first class degree in History. Since then I've acted as a research assistant to two leading historians: Professor Richard Whatmore (St Andrews) and Dr Karin Bowie (Glasgow).
My subject speciality is the history of ideas: whether you define that as political and/or social theory, or philosophy. Generally speaking my expertise lies in the political processes of the early modern period (1500-1800), especially in Scotland.
Having said that, I've studied a pretty wide range of stuff, including postwar British politics, post-independence East African politics and early modern China.

My lessons centre around giving you the space to think for yourself: there's no use me plying you with information if it goes into one ear and out the other. Memory and understanding aren't always the same thing - but they are in my lessons.
Please get in touch if this sounds good and we can take it from there. I charge £15 an hour, and my lessons are usually 2 hours long, but this can be flexible depending on your situation.
