About Christina

My name is Christina, but I go by Nina! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology and minor in Anthropology, also receiving the King O'Neal Scholar award, from the University of South Florida (USF). During my undergraduate studies, I had professors and tutors who truly cared about student success and well-being, so I became intrigued with teaching and giving back to my community. Before starting my PhD program at USF, I took on a professional guest teaching role in high school Algebra and Geometry for one semester. I created fun and interesting lesson plans to engage students and held after school tutor sessions to better prepare students for standardized testing. I have also been a teaching assistant in Biology and Physiology for the past 3 years at USF, where I supervise and guide college students through laboratory experiments and hold office hours for additional support and discussion. As a PhD candidate, education is something I highly value and want to continue sharing with others.

About the lesson

I will use my knowledge in mathematics and science and expertise in teaching to provide exceptional tutoring services for high school and college students. My schedule is flexible and I respond in a timely manner. I am open to virtual or in-person tutor sessions. My goal is to not only help students complete their assignments or prepare for an exam, but also to build their confidence and problem-solving skills. By encouraging students to work through practice problems with my guidance, ask questions, and explain their reasoning, I will provide exceptional support and tutoring services.

A typical lesson plan consists of a brief review of the material and discussion of the student's goals for our tutor session. We will then review the learning concepts and use real-world examples to make the material easier to understand. Most of our session will include practice problems, where students can ask me questions and explain their reasoning for an answer. Once the practice problems are complete, we will summarize the learning concepts, briefly review material that was more difficult to understand, and plan our next tutor session. Lessons can be adjusted based on whether the student is preparing for an exam, completing an assignment, strengthening their skills, or learning a new topic.
