About Katie
I hold an Integrated MSc Pharmacology (1:1) from KCL and University of Oxford. I am natively proficient in Cantonese and English, also proficient in Mandarin.
I enjoy teaching the piano, the flute, phonics/spoken English in my free time. I enjoy interacting with people from various backgrounds. I enjoy guiding and empowering my students in their pursuits with a positive learning attitude, in so doing boost their confidence.
I completed the Music Theory Grade 5 exam at age 10. Attained my ABRSM Grade 8 for piano and double bass at ages 11 and 15, as well as LTCL (Trinity) for flute at age 14. I played in orchestras and various local/international competitions throughout my childhood in Hong Kong.
I have worked across London, Oxford, Shanghai, Hong Kong (hometown). Friends and students describe me as an upbeat, cheerful, and enthusiastic person. In terms of my style of teaching, I am flexible, comfortable, and versatile. My teaching will be dependent on the student's needs -- combining structured/systematic teaching and malleability, working to the student's needs, potential and character.

The piano is one of the best first instruments to pick up as a newbie in music - gives you a solid base of musical understanding, teaches you how to read notes in both upper and lower clefs, and boosts your confidence when recognising pitches with multiple voicings as we work our way up.
We can do free-form learning or follow a goal-oriented learning programme (climb the ABRSM grades).
We'll break down the work needed to master all the way from scales to exam pieces to aural to sight reading.
