About Limchungbo
I sat these papers 1 year ago, which puts me nearer to where you are than to where your teacher is.
You can spend forty minutes on a single paragraph without me hurrying you. I'll also tell you where your writing sits at the moment, and the next thing I say is what to do about it. A student who hears they're fine in January gets an unpleasant surprise in June.
Before we start I ask for a piece of your work, so I'm beginning from your writing and not from a guess. The problems vary. If you analyse well and drift off the question, we work on topic sentences. If you know the content and run out of time, we do timed writing for a few weeks. Going from an 8 to a 9 / A to an A* is a different job again, and we spend that time arguing with the text rather than explaining it.
We use your set texts and your exam board, not the ones I know best. If your school teaches Power and Conflict and An Inspector Calls, that's what we read. If you have a mock on Thursday, we drop my plan and get ready for Thursday. If you have extra time in the exam, we practise with the time you'll have.
Some students want pushing. Others have been pushed since Year 9 and need to hear that the panic is bigger than the problem. I'll ask which you are, and I'll ask again later in the year, because it changes. If something isn't working, say so at the end of a lesson and we'll do it differently the week after.

I read Theology at Durham. I have A*AA at A level in English literature, History and Politics. Nine GCSEs graded 9 to 7. I sat these papers on the current specifications.
Every lesson starts with a question you have not seen. We take the wording apart until you can tell me what it demands and what it rules out. Then you build the plan: one line of argument, the paragraphs that carry it, the evidence for each. I challenge every claim you make. If you cannot tell me why a point answers the question, it stays out of the plan.
Then I test you. Quotations from memory with the book shut, case studies and dates with no notes, unseen extracts with no warning. You write to exam time while I keep the clock. You will hear the grade you are on today, even when it sits below the one you want.
You mark your own work before I mark it. You read the descriptors, place your answer in a band and justify the call. We compare marks and argue about the gap, which is where most of the learning happens. Every recurring mistake goes on a list we open at the start of the next lesson, so you can see what you have fixed and what keeps coming back.
Ideally aimed at year 10-11 students but open to taking any Year 7 - 9 students as well for GCSE English Language and Literature, and Years 12 and 13 taking A level English Literature, History or Politics. Resit and adult students welcome. AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas.
