About Michael
I grew up in the United Kingdom and moved to the U.S. for college. I went to Duke University down in North Carolina, needless to say, it was a culture shock; however, after graduating university I immediately became a teacher in New York City instead of going home. I committed myself to education in this country ever since starting my job, because I instantly fell in love with the art form that is teaching. Now, I am going back to school at Columbia to dive deeper into the world of literature so that I can further improve my teaching. I believe that we are all in a constant state of intellectual evolution, and I want to help others on their respective journeys.

I have prepared students for the NYS Regents Exam as well as the AP Literature exam. In all of my years of teaching, not one of my students has failed either. I can offer a great deal of help in academic essay writing: structure, scope, line of reasoning, evidence, and more. I can also teach students how to read, comprehend, and analyze complex texts.
I find the best way to transfer knowledge is through the paradigm of "Demonstrate. Do together. Try alone." For English literature studies, this can manifest itself in numerous ways. For instance, if tackling close-reading analysis, I demonstrate model identification of literary devices, after which teacher and student do the same for a different example, then finally the student feels comfortable to do so on their own under my supervision.
My lessons can be geared towards all high-school students; I have taught the NYS Regents as well as the AP literature Exam. I can also provide help to undergraduate university students.
