Ethos & Methodology:

1. Help students reach their drumming goals as fast and effortlessly as possible.
Learning the drums can be painful and slow. I understand learners' challenges, so I aim to make your musical journey smooth and enjoyable.
I appreciate that students often have busy and stressful lives outside of drumming, and lessons should be a time of relaxation, learning, and enjoyment.
With flexible scheduling and travel options, I can bring drum lessons to you, saving you time and effort.
After each session, you’ll receive a personalised lesson summary with custom sheet music, helpful resources, and clear practice goals. I also provide ongoing support between lessons, so you’re never left stuck or unsure of what to do next.

2. I let the student guide the lesson and study what excites them.
Music is most powerful when it excites you. Too many students lose motivation because they’re forced to study material they don’t connect with.
My approach is different: I encourage students to guide the direction of their lessons, focusing on the songs, styles, and skills that inspire them.
While I ensure strong foundations in technique, I balance this with making real music from day one. This keeps lessons engaging, enjoyable, and personally meaningful — so you stay motivated and see faster progress.

3. Find your voice.
This phrase can seem cliche and often lacks substance when used.
I was proficient at copying others in my early years of learning the instrument. However, I struggled to be creative, take initiative, and think for myself.
This is similar to someone who can regurgitate/imitate a phrase in a conversation (like a parrot) but cannot express their own opinion and think for themselves.
My goal as a teacher is to help the students imitate other musicians, assimilate their ideas, and innovate to find their unique voices.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

When I was 10 years old, I saw a covers band play live at a birthday party and I sat next to the drummer. From that moment, I was convinced that the drums would be a big part of my life!
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I have a very eclectic taste in music and love all genres. My shuffle can go from soothing ambient music to heavy rock!
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Playing a simple groove like "Billie Jean" can seem very straightforward; however, mastering the nuances is very challenging and can take a lifetime.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Drums! Mastering the independence of the 4 limbs can be challenging. Singing drummers take this to another level.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    Consistency!
My baseline ability for a lot of skills is very low; however, if you're consistent and aim to get 1% better every time, you'll make huge improvements in the long run
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Yuseff Days - Great groove, feel, and creativity. He has the power to make people dance, whilst having a unique voice. These 2 factors can be hard to combine.

Bernard Purdie - A versatile session drummer who has played on thousands of hits. His personality and humour are reflected in his drumming style.

Ben Howard - He explores multiple styles and creates music for himself and not for money or commercial success. I believe he has artistic integrity.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was 17, I had a new drum teacher at a new school. I wanted to take my Grade 8 exam; however, my teacher wanted me to do my Grade 3 instead. I believed in myself and practised with a new teacher, working hard and consistently. 6 months later, I passed my Grade 8 with a high mark.
My lesson from this experience is not to let others set your limits, and work hard and consistently to get what you want.
Also, don't forget to enjoy it!
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I let the student guide the lesson and study what excites them. I know too many students who gave up their instrument because they were forced to learn something which didn't interest them.
