About Maya
For the past five years, I’ve been helping students discover the role of chemistry in solving forensic challenges. With a MSc in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, I bring both scientific rigor and investigative curiosity to my lessons. My focus is on drug analysis, toxicology, and techniques in crime scene investigation. I believe in a holistic, interdisciplinary approach that integrates law, biology, and ethics. To make learning engaging, I use simulated case files modeled after real investigations. Students also explore analytical instrumentation, gaining insight into the science behind the evidence. Ethical reasoning plays a key role in every class, because accuracy and integrity are essential in forensics. I enjoy working with students who aspire to forensic science and law enforcement careers. Many say that they leave our sessions more confident and inspired. My goal is to make chemistry practical, meaningful, and exciting. Above all, I want students to see chemistry as a tool for uncovering truth and advancing justice.

I teach chemistry with a systematic approach, focusing especially on organic chemistry. My lessons begin with the basics of nomenclature and functional groups. We then move into reaction mechanisms and isomerism, always keeping the structure clear. Complex ideas are explained in simple language so students can follow easily. I adapt examples for Environmentalist and Marine Biologist learners, showing how chemistry links to their fields. Feedback is ongoing and tailored, giving students clear direction for improvement. I emphasize understanding, not just memorization. Students are encouraged to practice actively and reflect on their learning. Mistakes are welcomed as part of growth. Once the basics are mastered, we explore synthesis step by step. I support learners in building problem-solving skills for more advanced work. My approach makes the subject less daunting and more practical. With consistency and patience, students gain confidence in mastering carbon chemistry.
