About Sarah
I’m Sarah. I work as a primary school teacher in Ireland. I studied Drama, Theatre and Performance studies with English Literature at the University of Galway and got my PGDE teaching qualification from the University of Aberdeen. I’ve taught Speech and Drama in Ireland, the UK and the UAE.
Alongside teaching, I coach people one-to-one in public speaking and communication. I’ve also run workshops in international schools and within corporate companies in Ireland and the UAE, and I’ve worked with nurse educators on their presentation skills and on getting past their fear of speaking in front of others.
The part I enjoy most is the one-to-one work. Nerves can make capable, well-prepared people feel like they’re not good enough, and it’s really satisfying to watch someone get past that and start to enjoy being heard.
In lessons I’ll listen first, get a sense of what’s going on for you, and then we’ll work on it together at a pace that suits you. There’s no pressure to perform, and no one-size-fits-all script.
I’m also a published children’s author, so I know what it’s like to share something you care about and hope it lands well.
If nerves have been holding you back, I’d be glad to help!

Nerves look different for everyone. For some people it’s the moment before unmuting on a Teams call, when your heart is going and you’ve already lost the point you wanted to make. For others it’s standing up at a town hall with the whole company watching, or sitting across from an examiner for the Leaving Cert oral and suddenly forgetting words you know perfectly well.
I’ve taught speech and drama for years, and I’ve seen nerves take over people who are bright, capable and well prepared. Being prepared isn’t usually the problem. It’s what happens in your body when the attention turns to you.
So that’s where we start. We work on your breathing, your pace and your voice, so you have something to rely on when the nerves kick in. If you have something coming up, we practise with that. If not, we use everyday situations, like introducing yourself, sharing an opinion or telling a short story, and build from there, out loud and a little at a time, until speaking stops feeling like a test.
You won’t be asked to get rid of nerves completely. The aim is for them to stop running the show.
