About Alex
At Queen's University, I had the privilege of serving as a teacher's assistant for nearly a decade, where I taught over 300 students each year and designed a comprehensive curriculum for courses in green chemistry and advanced mechanistic chemistry. This experience taught me that every student learns differently, and I became skilled at breaking down complex scientific concepts into accessible, digestible pieces. I answered countless student inquiries with patience, creating an environment where students felt safe to ask questions and seek help without hesitation.
Many of my students faced learning challenges, and I worked closely with them to develop alternative approaches that suited their individual needs. Whether that meant using more visual aids, step-by-step problem-solving techniques, or hands-on demonstrations, I have ADHD myself, and felt the unease of having a different learning style than my fellow classmates. I learned to adapt my teaching style to ensure every student could succeed. My Ph.D. in chemistry provided me with a robust foundation not just in chemistry, but in the mathematical concepts that underpin it, allowing me to teach both subjects with confidence and clarity.
I am proficient with MS Windows and database software, having used Excel extensively for research data management and PowerPoint for creating engaging lectures. I am comfortable learning new educational technologies and using these tools to enhance student learning.
What truly drives me is witnessing that breakthrough moment when a struggling student finally grasps a concept and their confidence soars. I am patient, and committed to creating a supportive classroom where every student feels valued and capable of success.
I would be honored to bring my chemistry teaching experience, curriculum design skills, and deep commitment to inclusive education to your school. Thank you for considering my application.

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and ran multiple lectures and tutorials. I tutored general and organic chemistry for 15+ years. I ran my own tutoring business all through graduate school seeing 100+ high school and university students. I have ADHD and had a unique learning style, which I think gives me insight into how to explain topics from all angles. I approach teaching with empathy and patience. My goal is to build students up with confidence, as I struggled with confidence and anxiety in my learning journey.
