About Ranjit
DJing History:
I've been DJing professionally for 20 years in a variety of settings including nightclubs, warehouses, restaurants/bars and festivals, as well as running my own underground Techno event called 'Technoir' during that entire period. I predominantly play Techno but have also played Electro, Electro-House, House, Tech-House, Hip-Hop and Pop.
I use Traktor with a controller currently (for the past 10 years) but initially used turntables for the first 5 years of my DJing (I still have them so can teach using vinyl), and then used CDJs for the next 5 years.
Clubs I've played at in that time include The Mercat, Miss Libertine, Honkytonks, Lounge, Colour, Sub Club, Abode, 2 Floors Up, Wah Wah Lounge, My Aeon, and Brown Alley (I'm sure there's more I can't remember right now!).
Festivals I've played at include Rainbow Serpent Festival (every year between 2013 and 2019), Escape From Melburn, Trench and YFY.
I co-hosted a weekly radio show on Kiss FM for about 18 months in 2014-2015 called 'Late Night Hype.
Production History:
I began producing predominantly electronic music in 2016 after completing a diploma in sound production (electronic music) at SAE in mid 2016. Since then I have released seven EPs on Australian label 'Machine', an album on Portuguese label 'Diffuse Reality' as well as tracks appearing on compilations for 'Further Sessions' (Munich) and 'Denude' (Australia).
I predominantly use and have knowledge of Ableton Live but have had some experience with Pro Tools also.
Over the 20 years I have been DJing I have also given private DJ lessons (and production lessons more recently) many times and find it super rewarding to help others with the craft (and try and pass on some of the things I've nutted out after so long on the job). I also have a background in teaching in secondary schools so have lots of tools to help maximise my student's success!

My lessons are designed to give YOU the maximum value for your time and money.
I will ask you about what your goals are or what areas you'd like to improve in and we will work accordingly.
DJing lessons can be for vinyl, CDJs or Traktor (with midi controller) and can focus on just about any aspect of the craft that you feel you need to improve in. Optimally I'd like to have a listen to your DJing and see if I can pinpoint some aspects to improve on that maybe you weren't aware of.
Production lessons can be more general or technique/knowledge based or (in the case of production) you can send me your tracks and I can provide honest (and constructive) feedback on how to improve them (pre-master mixing is an area that I like to focus on to help your tracks sound as professional as possible).
For both DJing and production, lessons would generally go for 1-2 hours but often 1 hour is not quite enough to really get into a track if we're doing a deep dive on one of yours, or if we're really trying to practice a particular aspect of DJing.
I have a secondary teaching degree and have engaged in tutoring a variety of subjects (predominantly DJing/music production) for the past 10 years.
Lessons are for any age or level but probably best suited for 12yo and up.

Perfect! I got vinyl DJ lessons from Ranjit to prepare to DJ at a friend's birthday party. I had very little previous experience and with 4 lessons I had the basics and confidence for a fun and successful gig. Ranjit was friendly, patient and great at pointing out tips to help me improve and things to practice between lessons
