About Marquita

With over 15 years of experience in education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, I specialize in guiding graduate students, especially first-generation and neurodivergent scholars, through the often overwhelming process of thesis and dissertation writing. As a professional academic editor and university instructor, I combine deep knowledge of scholarly writing with a compassionate, strengths-based approach. I understand that every student’s journey is different, and I create a supportive space where writers feel respected, encouraged, and empowered to meet rigorous academic standards. My goal is to help students not only complete their projects but also grow in confidence as researchers and communicators.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach is grounded in empathy, clarity, and academic rigor. I work closely with each student to identify their individual strengths, challenges, and goals, whether they're just beginning their dissertation or refining final edits. I use a structured yet flexible method that includes guided questioning, collaborative outlining, targeted feedback, and step-by-step coaching on everything from research alignment to APA formatting.

A typical session might begin with a brief check-in to assess progress and clarify goals, followed by focused work on a specific section, such as narrowing a research question, improving literature review structure, or polishing scholarly tone. I offer live modeling, review sample writing, and provide actionable feedback to help students become more confident and independent writers.

What sets me apart is my combined expertise as a PhD holder, academic editor, and educator with over 15 years of experience supporting diverse graduate students. I understand the emotional and intellectual demands of academic writing, and I create a supportive space that honors each student’s voice while upholding the highest scholarly standards.

My lessons are ideal for master’s and doctoral students across disciplines who are working on theses, dissertations, or long-form academic writing projects, especially those seeking clear, compassionate guidance through complex writing tasks.
