About Mengyuan Margaret
Hi! I'm a University of Toronto French graduate with a DELF B2 certification and 300+ hours of teaching experience across learning centres — including 6e Intercultural Education and Inspiration Learning Centre — as well as private tutoring. I love helping students feel confident and excited about learning French, whether they're just starting or working to level up specific skills.
I create a relaxed, supportive environment where making mistakes is part of the process. Every lesson starts with figuring out exactly where you're at and what you need most, so nothing feels generic or rushed.
What I enjoy most is that "aha!" moment when everything clicks. I tailor each lesson to fit your learning style and goals, so you'll never feel left behind — my students often tell me they look forward to our sessions because learning French actually becomes fun.
Whether your goal is acing your next test, having your first real conversation in French, or just building the confidence to keep going, I'm here to help you get there. Let's make your French learning journey enjoyable and rewarding!

My Teaching Approach
As a French tutor with experience across learning centres — including 6e Intercultural Education and Inspiration Learning Centre — as well as private tutoring, I believe in creating personalized learning experiences that target each student's specific needs and goals. My methodology focuses on identifying individual weak areas — whether grammar, speaking, listening, or reading comprehension — and designing lessons that address these challenges while building overall confidence in French.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I use a diagnostic approach to understand where each student stands and what they need most. For some students, I work with their existing textbooks, carefully selecting and adapting content rather than following a rigid curriculum. For others, I create completely customized lessons from scratch, ensuring every minute addresses their specific learning objectives.
I enhance all materials with targeted exercises, additional speaking prompts, and real-world applications. My lessons blend structured learning with interactive practice, incorporating conversational practice, grammar exercises, listening comprehension activities, and writing tasks, adjusting the balance based on individual student needs.
A Typical Lesson Structure
Warm-up (5-10 minutes): Conversational review of previous material
Targeted Practice (20-30 minutes): Focus on the student's identified weak areas with tailored exercises
Interactive Application (15-20 minutes): Real-world practice through dialogue, role-play, or practical scenarios
Review & Homework Assignment (5 minutes): Consolidate learning and provide focused practice for next session
My strength lies in adaptability and personalization. Whether working with pre-made materials or creating original content, I continuously assess and adjust my approach based on each student's progress and learning style. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all teaching — every lesson is crafted specifically for the individual student's needs, pace, and goals.
My lessons are designed for beginner to intermediate French learners (A1-B2 levels), including:
Young learners (elementary and middle school) building foundational French skills and confidence
High school students seeking additional support
Adult learners starting their French journey
Students preparing for DELF or other French proficiency assessments
Anyone looking to improve specific skills like conversation, grammar, or listening comprehension
With DELF B2 certification and 300+ hours of teaching experience across learning centres and private tutoring, I work with students requiring anywhere from 1-6 hours of weekly instruction, adapting lesson frequency and intensity to match their schedule and learning objectives.
