About Isla
Hi, I’m a guitar tutor with 11 years of experience, helping students of all levels unlock their full musical potential. I hold an Associate Degree in Guitar Performance and have extensive experience preparing students for Rockschool, Trinity, and university-level guitar programmes. My teaching focuses on building strong technical skills while nurturing creativity and personal expression. I guide students through structured practice, tone development, and rhythm mastery, ensuring they progress confidently at their own pace. I also emphasise performance readiness, helping students feel comfortable and expressive on stage. I work with learners on all guitar styles, from classical and acoustic to jazz, electric, and bass. I believe every student has unique strengths, and I tailor lessons to highlight and develop those abilities. Creative exercises, improvisation, and musical exploration are a big part of my sessions. Above all, I am passionate about helping students discover joy in playing guitar and reaching their personal and performance goals. Each lesson is designed to be motivating, engaging, and rewarding, building both skill and confidence.

Tone awareness is key, and I help students develop a rich, expressive sound. We also explore breathing with rhythm to improve timing, phrasing, and musical flow. I encourage using music as a mindfulness tool, helping students feel calm, focused, and connected while playing. Lessons cover different styles of guitar, including classical, jazz, acoustic, electric, and bass. I work closely with those aiming to perform professionally, guiding them to excel in live performances and recordings. Creative exercises help develop improvisation, composition, and personal expression. I also support students in building consistent practice habits, overcoming challenges, and achieving their musical goals. Every session is tailored to individual needs, making learning both productive and enjoyable.
