About Joe
I am currently studying for my PhD in Environmental Science at UCL, under a NERC DTP scholarship, having achieved a first class degree at undergraduate level (BSc in Zoology, University of Exeter) and a distinction at postgraduate level (MRes in Ecology, evolution and conservation, Imperial College London).
I have a great deal of hands-on training in scientific research across multiple areas in Biology and Life Sciences, both in the lab and out in the field. I am experienced in both essay writing and the production of journal-style reports, having been awarded the Dean's Commendation for Exceptional Performance for my dissertation. The communication of science to wider audiences is a particular passion of mine, and I have had training in writing for websites, blogs, and press releases.

When it comes to tutoring, I draw upon my own experiences both in school and academia. I understand that not everyone learns in the same way and so am flexible in my work, adapting my teaching style to each student. I am always friendly and encouraging to my students and do everything I can to support them and ensure they achieve their goals.
Having worked in scientific publishing for a year, and having undergone university application processes, I understand that there are many more essential skills that students should be prepared for outside of the pure subject material. Therefore, I am more than happy to provide guidance on the fundamental skills required for finding and applying to jobs and universities successfully. This includes writing CVs, cover letters and personal statements as well as preparation for interviews.
